I have been a James Rolfe fan for a little while now. He makes quality material and he obviously puts effort into the vast majority of his content. However, despite my opinion of his work, I am not blind and my brain functions properly. What I am seeing from him is the biggest load of crap I've seen in a little while. I've seen arguments go both ways and now, after formulating my own opinion, I want to discuss what this appears to be.
So here's what's going on for those who don't know. The AVGN has made a cameo in a video, along with several other game reviewers, where a game programmer has requested 65 grand to make a hack of an NES game called Cheetamen 2
(and yes they spelled cheetah wrong). Now, "Cheeta" men 2 is known for being an absolutely ATROCIOUS game. It is also very rare. So the programmer said he would patch the glitches and fix the game up. Now, to make the issue clear, this programmer requested 65 thousand dollars to do this. And to make it worse, in order to get the game, you must pledge $60 dollars. Let me point out that there is already a patched version for FREE online that you can download. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, YOU DO NOT NEED THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX AN 8-BIT NES GAME.
Now, Mike Matei, who moderates James' youtube channel, has said that he has wants to remove the video but based on certain circumstances, he is not allowed to do so. Ok, I'll buy that. But he disabled the comments later on and he hasn't said anything else. That's shady and it hurts the situation. Right now, 30 grand has already been donated to the project. Mike Matei has also said that James agreed to make the cameo, but they didn't understand what they were getting into. If that's true then 1) You should be a little more careful and 2) Now you have taken your fans money and given it to a scammer.
James Rolfe needs to explain himself, apologize, and compensate for the money his fans lost. If he just admits that he screwed up, he can fix his reputation. But until he does so, I'm afraid his fanbase will disintegrate into a pile of nothingness. What do you think?
